WINE PAIRING FROM LIONEL PERINER – Independent Sommelier (Advanced Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers)

If you would like more advice or wines delivered to your home please contact Lionel via – Instagram @lionelperiner

STARTER: Grenache rose from Languedoc (France) or Penedes (Spain). Grenache grape gives a nice pink colour and a flavoursome, dry palate for rose wine. The structure of the wine balances with the meaty flavour of the duck. The acidity will cleanse the palate.

DISCOVERY: Zweiglt rose (Austria)

MAIN: Pinot Noir and mushroom pair divinely. The smoky flavour from the potatoes and the roasted chicken will enhance the dark fruit note of the wine, whether it is the earthy note of an old Pinot Noir or a juicy, ripe Pinot from the New World.
As a premium option, an aged Chablis (France) at least 4 years old. The Chardonnay grape in this area will give a flinty and mineral character.

DISCOVERY: Savagnin from Jura (France) or Koshu from Japan (Orange wine)

DESSERT: Pedro Ximenez grape from Andalucia in Spain. Sweet sherry with flavours of coffee beans, dark cacao and, of course, mixed nuts.  It could be a liquid tiramisu.
Espresso Martini cocktail.
